TERROIR MARKED BY VOLCANOES
The two 290-million-year-old volcanic rocks andesite and porphyry are the protagonists of our wines and are nowhere else to be found in Rheinhessen! Combined with the altitude of the vineyards, this results in a truly exciting potential for mineral cool-climate wines with a unique character and extensive maturation potential!
ANDESITE
Andesite was formed during the cooling of a lava flow. In the air pockets, quartzites formed over millions of years, the agates.

Wines from andesite are mineral and lean. Their elegance is carried by multilayered, fruity notes as well as a balanced acidity.
The soil, rather shallow and stony, warms up particularly well but does not have a high water retention capacity.
PORPHYRY
Porphyry was formed from a volcano that cooled down in itself. Liquid magma rose through the earth's crust, but never reached the surface and solidified.

Wines from porphyry are elegant and complex. Minerality and acidity provide the vibrant kick!
The soil, which is rather shallow and stony, warms up particularly well but does not have a high water retention capacity
VINEYARDS
Born in the heart of the volcano, our 14 hectares of vineyards are spread on the outer borders of Rheinhessen around Stein-Bockenheim, Siefersheim and Fürfeld. The highest elevations of Rheinhessen are on our doorstep, and the Donnersberg in the southern direction protects the region from heavy rainfall.
This and the volcanic rock soils make for ideal conditions for unique and complex cool-climate wines.

OUR QUALITY PYRAMID
The three-tier quality pyramid STEITZ | ORTSWEIN | LAGENWEIN of our wine range follows the guidelines of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates), which at the same time is the basis of the association MAXIME HERKUNFT RHEINHESSEN, which we are a member of.
Our Lagenweine are of superior quality and at the top of the pyramid: The single vineyard sites Heerkretz, Eichelberg and Sonnenberg yield these premium wines made from Riesling, Spätburgunder and Chardonnay.
The individual soil and microclimate in the respective vineyard create the special terroir that allows the wines to become individual artefacts that express their provenance.
Further maturation in the bottle allows them to show their full potential after 3 to 4 years.

Our Ortsweine are defined by their origin. Whether from Neu-Bamberg or Stein-Bockenheim, these wines lace the corset of provenance tighter than with STEITZ wines, with lower yields and manual harvesting.

Spontaneously fermented in large oak barrels with an individual maceration and time on the fine lees, they offer vibrant, terroir-driven enjoyment with a character clearly marked by origin.
The wine to get a first understanding of our wine philosophy.
Whether Riesling, Silvaner, Pinot varieties or Sauvignon Blanc. Our STEITZ wine reflects ist origin of mostly porphyry and andesite soils and offers authentic Steitz enjoyment.
